About

Launched at De Montfort University (in collaboration with the University of Sussex) in June 2016, the Labour, Work, and Development Network brings together scholars from a variety of disciplines and universities across the UK and Europe conducting research on labour, work, and development in the Global South.

As the global crisis of capitalism deepens, understanding the demands, interests, and impact of work and workers in the Global South is increasingly urgent. The network brings together scholars across anthropology, international political economy, sociology, and work and employment all working on this pressing problem. It offers a space to combine diverse perspectives across different sites and scales to understand the multiple ways in which work and labour are central to development in regions across the Global South.

The site provides a source for future events, for ongoing research and collaboration between members of the network, and for short posts outlining aspects of our research.
